Joell Ortiz, an up and coming Brooklyn born star has come a long way. Inspired by pioneers like Big Daddy Kane, Joell started writing at the age of eleven. However, his biography explains that as Joell reached high school, there was a setback that would put his dream on hold and force him to become a product of the streets. The setback was his mother's addiction to cocaine. As luck would have it, he began selling the same substance that was put his life on hold. However, It wouldn't be long, before he started his quest to success. His once unnoticed talent would soon be recognized in the Unsigned Hype column of the March 2004 issue of The Source Magazine as well as to be selected as Chairman's Choice for XXL Magazine. During the same time Joell also went on to win the 2004 EA Sports Battle which earned his song Mean Business a spot on the NBA Live 2005 soundtrack at the same time winning him an advertised signing to Jermaine Dupri's So So Def record label, an offer that was revoked by Dupri because he signed 106th &Park Freestyle Friday emcee, Sonny instead.....
